Day-wise Summary of First Digital Media Training of Trainers
(DM-ToT)
Day-10 (Dated: 19/10/2012)
This was the last day of out training. Most of the things were revised. The day, however started with the detailed feedback of the previous day. All the participants gave their comments and asked if there was anything confusing. We were also provided two sets of questionnaire to answer. The questions were asked to evaluate our level of understanding of the the things discussed throghout the ToT. We were also asked to rate the overall significance of the training. All the participants also recorded video interviews among themselves which were played on the big screen too. It was enjoying too. In the end all the attendees of the trianing shared their feeelings and experiences of the training. All thanked Asif Iqbal and Adil for being so kind and cooperative throughout the training.
DAY-9 (Dated:18/10/2012)
On the 9th day we all the participants attended a Photo Camp/2012 which was sponsored by USAid in collaboration with the Internews & National Geographic (TV Channel). The ceremoney was held at the Serena Hotel and Chief Gust, the director of the USAid in Pakistan, inaugurated the formal activities of the event. While addressing, the director said that "A picture is worth thousand words", adding that, "the importance of photography can not be denied. It depicts history, geography, culture and articulture, he further added.
Participants of the Photo Camp had captured many scenic photographs from different areas of Pakistan, specially Swat, FATA and other southern parts of the KPK. All the participants appreciated the efforts of USAID and Internews for enhancing their skills in the field of photography. The work of the participants of the camp was, really, worth-appreciation. The event came to an end after lucnh and we came back to the guest house afternoon. It was really an enjoyable day.
Special, Personal & Worth-considering Observation
I was having a look at one of the photographs in which a man's photgraph was taken who was sleeping in his workshop. His consent was not sought before capturing him which is unethical. The participant argued that in that case she would have missed the opportunity to take the photograph. Then I asked did you seek his permission to make it public. The answer was, "No". So kindly tell young participants the ethical sides of the field.

Day-8 (Dated:17/10/2012)
The day began with the feedback and most of us were not clear about a few terminologies. There was little confusion regarding Proper usages of the terminologies. After the feedback, the trianer explained all the perplex and confusing terms.We learnt their actual meanings and that which one is software and which one is a file and what fuction each does.
We then presented our themes and discussed the problems we faced as some of us had chosen themes that didn't offer multiple menus options. We were guided thoroughly how to choose a suitable theme according to our own choice and needs. We also learnt how to set different options in that theme.
In order to have uniformity, all the participants were asked to select one theme. We all selected “Admirer” as it had multiple menus with easily-available customize setting. The offers multiple options to make our websites as we want. It had the options to change clour-schemes, give widgets and so on.

Later, we learnt how to set layout, and colours. We also learnt how to embed video in our page, how to make gallery and add pictures to it. We were also guided how a gallar of pictures can be added, edited and published. Featured image was also one cathchy things regargding image insertion. We learnt how to set featured image and what was the objective of it.We also learnt how to set thumbnail for gallery.
We were made learnt what are plugins, how are they used, how are they download and installed.We installed and activated many plugins including, Video, Audio and facebook.

Day-7 Summary (Dated:16/10/2012)
After reviewing the last day work and assignments, we were told about many things relating to the development, use and maintaining of wedsite. We were given software, Xampp, for installation. This software has the capability to automatically install, Apache File Zilla and Wordpress too. It was done successfully.This session includes a lot of things and we were guided through all this. The things we learned are given below:

The trainer made us learn how to create account in Wordpress. We learned about the different Themes for developing Web-pages in Wordpress. We selected our own Themes. After selecting the theme, we developed our own websites learning how to Post, create New Pages, Categorize, Permalinks etc.
DAY-6 Summary (Dated: 15/10/2012)

Doing the assignment for weekend all faced problems regarding using of Batch conversion in Irfanview. Mr. Adil helped us in this regard. The trainer, Asif Iqbal, also asked the if we had any problems regarding the assignment.
After feedback session our webpages were shown on the project and Asif Iqbal critically appreciated the work of each trainee. He also asked us to formally manage and updates blogs which was done as directed within half-an-hour. We used Remove Formatting and Descending Order.
We inserted tag at the end of each day report and we saw a magic when we view our blog. It draws a line between two posts and looks good.
Then we started work again in Dreamweaver. We learned some more options and tools like how to manage our files and if we select and changes in site management so it never ask you again to enter your login ID and password.
We learned other option of linking file.We came to know that we should keep the main file naming index.html.We were warned to use capital letter, spacing, starting with digits and with special characters.
We were through other properties and use of File Zilla, a sofwat ware used for Web-site Development.
On request, Mr. Adil also made us learn about layer masking in Adobe Photoshop.

Michael’s visit
At the very beginning of the session (9:00AM) Michael McAuliffe, the Resident Journalism Advisor Internews-Pakistan, visited us. It was nice to have interacted with him. He shared aims and aspirations of the Internews for the development of Local Journalism pertaining to any media—Radio, TV or Digital. It was, really, great to hear from him that a foreign trainer, who has served in many globally well-reputed media organizations including BBC, might train us in the next two streams of DM-ToTs. For Internews and Michael’s efforts, Thumbs Up…!

The formal session started after Michael left. As usual all the participants gave their feedback on the previous day work getting their confusions clear if anyone had.
The fifth day we learned a lot things pertaining to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaver.
Adobe Photoshop
We were guided how to use Mask Layer and where and why it is used. We did the practical work too. We learned about other distinctive properties for the editing of the image including Use of different Filters, mixing of two images etc. Using of filters was really great and wonderful. We were told how to Use Render, Noise, Distort, Sketch, Texture and other filters. Conversion of different Photo formats was also included in the session. Adobe Dreamviewrer
Before starting the session on Adobe Dreamweaver, we were asked to insatal the same software which was done successfully. Really, I found the Dreamweaver wonderful. I realized how beautiful website can be developed if one is specialized in using of the Dreamweaver. We were taught how a wesite site page can be developed using the Dreamweaver. We learned the basic tools, different interfaces, site management and other attributes of the software. I realized it was easier to develop website page(s) using the software as compared to the do it manually. We were meticulously guided through the use of Dreamweawer including the following:
· Developing the HTML files
· How to develop Banner
· How to Insert Tables with different sizes, columns and rows
· Merging of Cells
· Heights and Width of Main and sub-tables
· Bordering of Tables
· Inserting of Images
· Color Schemes
To be brief, the day went well and we worked till around 6:00PM (Evening) happily.
DAY- 4 (Dated: 11/10/12)
The session on fourth started like usual days of the training with the feedback. It was a useful activity and our recalled our learning through feedback and also learnt from others presentations the things we missed in our ones. We were told about the Graphics including Raster and Vector Graphics.
Adobe Photoshop
We were made learned how to install Adobe Photoshop and Irfan viewer software, we were guided through the whole steps in downloading the software.
Different Features of Adobe Photoshop
We worked on Adobe Photoshop first and learnt about its interface, navigation bar, toolbar and property bar and use of different buttons over there. We learnt what are Raster graphics and Vector graphics, their values and properties.
We learned to make banner and buttons in Adobe Photoshop where we learnt the use of different layers, and how work on each layer and chain them Apart of this we also learnt how to set properties for layers, how to duplicate them, how to chain them and the concept of RGB color temperature and Aspect Ratio.
Picture Quality
Along with this I also learnt about the different features of picture and colors and how important are pixels for an image. Ordering of picture was very important. We leant what is dpi and why to set it at 72 and in order how to set the Picture quality at 70 to 80 % to accommodate space and achieve quality as well.
We also learnt how to set picture quality in Irfan viewer, how to set batch conversation.
Day-3 (Dated:10/10/12)
The day started with a discussion on Social Media, its significance in the present scenario of fastest communication tools, and how it is affecting the world of News being the first to break.
Specefically, the main points discussed were:
· Introduction to different Social Media Networks
· Social Media Networks as source of News
· How journalists can use Social Networks
We were also given a detailed description of most popular Social Media networks explaining how to use them more efficiently. Some of them were quite new to me. Below is given the lists of the Media which were discussed before lunch:
· Facebook
¨ A face book page was also created. It is available on the Facebook with the name of Digital Training
· Twitter

Frankly speaking, during session on Social media our energy level was a bit down but thanks to the trainer that he energized us with the awesome Presentation & Practical on Blogs. The main glimpses of the session on Blogs which was started after lunch covered the following points:

I had a blog but the features which the trainer shared with us were not in my knowledge. It was really an appreciation-worthy presentation. All participants were asked to create blogs of their own. It was done too. The URL for my blog is:

Hyper Text Mark-up Language (HTML) remained the main focus during the session. Sound on Tape, however, were also recorded and edited after installing and learning how to use Adobe Audition.

Day-1 Dated: (08/10/12)
Frankly speaking, I was too tired to attend the first training day as I had just arrived in the morning (6:00AM) after 6-7 hours drive. Anyhow, I attended it. Unexpectedly, the trainer did not let us bored and made us understand the fundamentals of the training. The things which I learned during the day are briefly described in the following:
